Description rasz 2006-08-02 04:44:39 UTC
under Gnome:
minimizing from tray and then restoring window will move it to the left and up
a litle every time

minimizing by clicking minimize button on apps that support minimizing to tray
will NOT minimize those apps _only to tray_ like they want, but also to "Window
List", clicking app button in "Window List" will restore empty window, clicking
tray icon will restore CROPPED horizontally window

http://www.google.com/search?q=wine+tray+minimize
gets you http://www.winehq.com/hypermail/wine-devel/2002/11/1123.html
http://www.winehq.com/hypermail/wine-devel/2002/11/1114.html
so this is AGES old bug

ps:same on Cedega
Comment 1 Vijay Kamuju 2006-08-23 12:29:29 UTC
now systray implementation has got XEMBED support, so please test with latest
GIT revision or 0.9.20 when released
Comment 2 rasz 2006-08-25 16:21:57 UTC
nope, like I said my bug report is about :

-minimizing from tray and then restoring window will move it to the left and up
a litle every time

-minimizing by clicking minimize button on apps that support minimizing to tray
will NOT minimize those apps _only to tray_ like they want, but also to "Window
List", clicking app button in "Window List" will restore empty window, clicking
tray icon will restore CROPPED horizontally window

I knew beforehand about tray icon being in the middle of moving from own window
to tray notification area. BTW looks like XEMBED implementation doesnt support
transparency in tray icons.

So to replicate this bug download
http://www.metal-machine.de/readerror/NetMeter_v0999beta2.exe
http://download.utorrent.com/1.6/utorrent.exe

in Netmeter every minimize and restore will move window to the left a little
in utorrent go to 'options/general/system tray' and turn everything on, now
play with minimizing from tray and Window List, the window will crop or display
only border :/
Comment 3 Ger Teunis 2006-09-09 10:19:45 UTC
I confirm

"minimizing by clicking minimize button on apps that support minimizing to tray
will NOT minimize those apps _only to tray_ like they want, but also to "Window
List""

uTorrent mimizes to Window List, when trying to open it again by clicking on the
correspondig Window List Item, it doesn't restore correctly.

Same here with Google Talk and wine 0.9.20.
But minimizing to taskbar is the normal way in GT, also on windows though there
is a systray-icon(both in windows and wine). For only having it in systray icon
you have to use the "x"/close-button(though it doesn't work in wine either).
But after minimizing, it doesn't bump up again correctly, it is only showing
something wird in a box. That may be the same.
Comment 7 rasz 2006-10-01 03:15:18 UTC
bump. 0.9.22 same
minimizing to tray when "close to tray" is checked in uTorrent works,
minimizing with minimize button when "minimize to tray" is checked doesnt.
I suspect the window manager sees the minimize click and does its thing -
minimizes anyway. Ill try it with something other than metacity and report back.

Works for me on the latest git and with µtorrent 1.6. I'm using KDE 3.5.5
Comment 10 Juho 2007-01-15 02:43:47 UTC
Distr: Kubuntu Edgy, with KDE 3.5.5 and QT 3.3.6, wine 0.9.29 wine ubuntu
repository.

If utorrent is minimized from inside application and then maximized from taskbar
back to full size, application window is 100% transparent and only borders are
shown.

This is huge problem because utorrent is the best torrent client atm in the
market :|

At least Minimize & Naximize by clicking utorrent systray icon works :)

My last comment about this bug:
"

Sry that problem dissappeared when I unselected setting "minimize to tray" from
utorrent settings woohoo.
Comment 12 rasz 2007-01-15 07:54:55 UTC
why are you sorry? this bug is EXACTLY about "minimizing to tray" :)
Comment 13 Juho 2007-01-15 13:31:11 UTC
rasz: Oh I see :) Then its still bug... :p

"minimizing from tray and then restoring window will move it to the left and up
a litle every time"

With .9.31 it moves up like before, but left move is only 1 pixel, so something
has changed :)
Comment 16 rasz 2007-05-24 12:22:52 UTC
wine taskmgr has same problem, minimizing it = empty window and Window List item
Comment 17 Dan Kegel 2007-12-17 08:47:14 UTC
Still present in 0.9.46 at least (haven't tested later).

The comments in bug 7378 are worth reading.

Nominating for 1.0, as some popular apps (uTorrent)
and even a builtin app (Task Manager) seem to be broken by this bug.

Still present in wine 0.9.53. Doesn't move up and to the left for me, now is just moving up...
Comment 19 rasz 2008-01-18 18:34:11 UTC
and doesnt move at all in wine 0.9.51
Comment 20 Jari Turunen 2008-01-28 16:27:56 UTC
This promlem with uTorrent is irritating. with FC8 I don't use use the minimize button of the main window at all. instead I click uTorrent panel icon (shown close to clock on bottom right side of the screen after you start utorrent). This will solve the problem from user point of view... But it is still a fault in the way wine works.

Comment 22 Jan de Mooij 2008-03-18 14:20:08 UTC
Ok, I debugged this with taskmgr.exe and uTorrent. When I send SW_MINIMIZE, everything works fine, but from winex11.drv it doesn't. When a minimize event is received we do:

data->lock_changes++;
ShowWindow( hwnd, SW_MINIMIZE );
data->lock_changes--;

The lock prevents SW_HIDE (which is done in response to the SW_MINIMIZE) to work. Removing the lock works, but is not the right solution. Alexandre Julliard said on IRC he would have a look at it.
Comment 23 Markus 2008-03-27 08:43:10 UTC
Is it only me, or is this bug fixed in the current git? My problem with minimizing my application which minizes to tray and restoring it again works now...

Markus

Comment 24 Alexandre Julliard 2008-04-02 16:38:23 UTC
It should work better now, please retest.

Just tested in Kubuntu Hardy (kde 4.0.3)/wine-git, and there taskmgr will not hide when minimized, but goes to the system tray. I'll test feisty gnome tomorrow.
Comment 26 Dmitry Timoshkov 2008-04-02 23:22:31 UTC
Works fine here with Ubuntu 7.04/Metacity 2.18.2

Yeah, appears to be a KDE issue.
Comment 28 Scott Ritchie 2008-04-06 04:49:41 UTC
Testing in Ubuntu Hardy, eMule does not minimize to the system tray, and worse still utorrent is no longer even visible for me. I can't even see the tray icon.
Comment 29 Scott Ritchie 2008-04-06 06:14:09 UTC
This is actually a regression now for me on Gnome 2.22 in Ubuntu Hardy - in 0.9.58 utorrent shows its system tray icon when I start it, but in 0.9.59 it does not (although I occasionally see strange behavior like an existing system tray icon duplicated - neither one of them controls utorrent).
Comment 30 Jean Péloquin 2008-04-09 10:07:34 UTC
getting the same as Scott, tray icon does not show utorrent icon, does not activate on any mouse click and does not open close the app , but the app still works.
ubuntu 8.04 beta , wine 0.9.59, utorrent 1.77
Comment 31 Jean Péloquin 2008-04-10 20:19:20 UTC
april 10, 2007, 21:15 est , ubuntu 8.04 beta 5, gnome 2.22, wine 0.9.59-ubuntu4, utorrent-1.7.7.

just got a partial upgrade and the problem reported by Scott Ritchie, that kind of confirmed, about the tray icon going buggy, (duplicating another tray icon, no menu , no togggling utorrent open/close). seems to have vanished,

thanks to whom ever fixed it :-)
Comment 32 Scott Ritchie 2008-04-10 20:38:43 UTC
Yeah I included the patch that fixes the regression in the 0.9.59 package included with Ubuntu Hardy. eMule's tray minimize still doesn't work, however.
Comment 33 Alexandre Julliard 2008-05-14 06:30:55 UTC
Marking fixed, this works for most apps now.

eMule's problem is that it only triggers on WM_SYSCOMMAND, which we don't send. It can be worked around by disabling window manager decorations and using the Wine controls instead.
Comment 34 Alexandre Julliard 2008-05-14 07:27:56 UTC
The remaining problem with eMule is now under bug 13217.
Comment 35 Alexandre Julliard 2008-05-23 10:37:29 UTC
Closing bugs fixed in 1.0-rc2.
