office 2010 installation crashes on wine 2.21

Not a critical bug. Does it work with older versions of wine?

This is probably due to the partially-fixed state of #34989. Can you provide a full log?

The same outcome is seen w.r.t wine 2.0.3.and 1.6.2 as well

Office 2010 requires a 32 bit wineprefix (bug 18070) set to XP (bug 38838).

There's no crash with that setup, but the installer does report encountering an error a little over half way through and rolls back the install. The regression test results:

Yes, that's about what I expected. I'm working on a proper fix, but there's a lot of testing involved so it'll take some time.

036f007e241b95498964c53365300a3332a92c5a reverted the commit that caused the problem for Notation Composer 3 and Office 2010. The reversion fixes the Notation Composer 3 problem, but the Office Pro Plus 2010 installer is still not working as it was before the offending commit: it now hangs toward the end instead of reporting a failed install. 

In addition, the Office Enterprise 2007 installer now also hangs, whereas it was working perfectly up until 3.0-rc3. Reverting the reversion gets it working again.

The patch doesn't revert cleanly and the build fails.

Right, looks like my git wasn't actually current, and 036f007e241b95498964c53365300a3332a92c5a
causes e1e668d41fce1dbd0270cd9de0d880a236ddb869 to not revert cleanly. I'll attach a fixed patch.

Unfortunately the installer for Office 2010 still hangs (wine set to 32 bit & XP) in  wine 3.0-rc4. Glad to see that there is a working patch. Any chance that this patch will be applied upstream?

Can you try and see if the patches attached to bug 38838 (attachment 60150 [details]) make a difference?

Sorry I don't have a build environment to test this with. I installed 3.0-rc5 from the winehq-devel ubuntu repo.

Notation Composer 3 installs fine on Wine 3.0-rc5.

OK, I just managed to install Office 2013 with unpatched 3.0-rc5 win32. My issue was that winbind was not installed.
