In eMule 0.46c the text field that is used for entering keywords for a search
will  frequently come to a state where a blinking cursor is displayed, but
keyboard input has no effect on the contents of the field.

Clicking with the mouse cursor on the text field has no effect.  Keyboard input
still does nothing.  Clicking on the button at the righthand end of the field,
having the label "6" will clear the field and allow keyboard input.

Sometimes the blinking cursor won't appear until the button marked "6" is clicked.

Switching to another tab on the eMule window and coming back to the "Search" tab
will return the input field into a usable state.

I confirm this behavior with Wine 0.9.8 and eMule 0.47a.

The "6" on the drop-down button seems to be fixed though, since it's now
properly displaying a down arrow.

The problem is now fixed with Wine 0.9.9 and eMule 0.47a. However the "6" is
back for some reason, but this is not a functional issue, just cosmetic.

This is still a problem with eMule 0.47a and Wine 0.9.20.  The problem is still
the same as described above.

Also, I'll note that text can still be selected, cut, copy, and pasted into the
field when it's in this state, even though no typing is allowed.  You can even
delete parts of the text through careful use of cut.

Further analysis of this bug seems to be that it's a case of focus being in the
wrong place - even though the search field text is blinking, entered characters
are actually going into the search RESULTS below.  You can see this behavior by
having a long search results list, and hitting a few characters - the program
will then jump to the alphabetical index of the characters you hit, rather than
typing them.

I can confirm what Scott Ritchie said.

When you click on the search textbox you can type your searchwords as well. When you do it, the focus move to the search result listbox and you can't move it back to the searchbox. So you can't do another search.

A little workaround is to do a search, then switch to the transfer panel, and finally return to the search panel. In the last step the focus will automatically be in the search textbox. This works but is very very bugging.

Please solve this bug if you can. Good work.

Just to update, this bug is still very much alive in Wine 0.9.47

Yes, this bug is still present eve in 1.0rc3 and I hope that it's fixed in 1.0!
