Description Denis 2012-06-28 11:21:50 CDT
Some days ago I've updated Wine to 1.5.7 (from the official repository). It worked good, but yesterday evening some new update was downloaded. After this update Wine doesn't work at all.
Now when I try to install a program, I have "an internal error". A disks tab in winecfg is not available ("failed to open mount manager").

I have reinstalled Wine several times (I have also removed the .wine directory). Useless.

Now I installed 1.4 from the Ubuntu repository, and now it works.

So, as I understood, the problem is in Wine 1.5.7?
Comment 1 Miguel 2012-06-28 12:26:53 CDT
I have a similar problem too, see http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=31058

After that update i've start to have some problems too, thats why i clean the wineprefix now it's all messed up, winetricks doesn't work at all, and i have reintalled wine several times too, without any solution. Wich distro are you using?
Comment 2 Austin English 2012-06-28 12:45:35 CDT
Probably a dupe of bug 30410.
Comment 3 Dan Kegel 2012-06-28 13:38:35 CDT
The ubuntu wine-1.5.7 packages are freshly broken. Scott knows about it,
and will replace his broken workaround for bug 30410 with a clean one.

Marking UPSTREAM (although come to think of it this is DOWNSTREAM).

Clarifying summary.

Wine 1.5.7 pulse 18 has fixed this issue.

Confirming, the new package fixes all the problems.

Closing then.
Comment 10 tim 2012-06-30 02:50:20 CDT
Not fixed for me. Programs still crash. They crash differently, but still don't run. I put this in the forum yesterday:

There was another release today (29th June). The applications still don't work, but fail in a different way. For instance, using my original MSAccess .desktop I now either get Access running but no response to pressing GUI buttons, or the program crashes (and wants to send a message to Microsoft).

MyPhoneExplorer behaves similarly, almost working 1st time but being unresponsive, then on the second start it crashes. This behaviour alternates for each restart.

I managed to find the complete wine update history. It's in the Ubuntu Software Centre. Synaptics only shows those items updated via Synaptics.

If I could find a way to attach a crash dump I would, but I can't see how to do so on this forum. A copy follows:

On advice in the forum I have created a win32 wineprefix (a struggle when you are rather ignorant, as I am). I managed to get MSAccess 2003 running after several attempts. There are so many wine warnings and messages when installing that it's hard to see what it going on, but it seems to run at the moment.
