Description Geoff Cooper 2011-08-07 01:45:41 UTC
Wine Error: Very similar to bug No 13822; Excel error

System details: Linux 2.6.32-33-generic #71-Ubuntu SMP Wed Jul 20 17:30:40 UTC 2011 i686 GNU/Linux

Wine version 1.2.2 fresh install with all defaults unchanged

Installed MS Visio 2003

any visio files previously saved from a windows machine will not save when run from within wine. Error message is Disk Full. This action results in the original file being corrupted, with a file size of approx 1.5kb

Go to Save As, and give it a new file name, and it saves ok

A possible fix for the bug 13822 was reportedly copying ole32.dll into wine, but it didn't say which version of ole32.dll I tried it with the vista version of ole32.dll and it caused visio to crash.

Tried various other overrides without any luck.

Please try wine version 1.3.26.
Comment 2 Geoff Cooper 2011-08-07 10:20:19 UTC
Unable to try 1.3.26 as not yet built. Tried 1.3.25, exactly the same problem.

Thanks for trying anyway.

There is no output from the terminal.

Not critical, and don't change the original reported version; just leave a comment that the issue is still present in current Wine.

Hello folks,

loading, modifying and saving of Visio drawings works fine here.

I tested with various drawings downloaded here: http://www.learnit.com/samples/Visio/

NOTE 1: For Visio 2003 installer you have to work around bug 31942 by using 'wine msiexec -i vispro.msi'.

NOTE 2: Users in appdb gave Visio garbage ratings, complaining with: "The program will start but will not display any documents" ...
This is kind of expected because similar to MS Office 'private' RichEdit component, a private 'gdiplus' component is shipped and has to be used.

You have to set 'gdiplus' to 'native' with 'winecfg'.
If you don't know how to do that use 'winetricks gdiplus' recipe (the native version installed by winetricks isn't used but the registry override is the important thing).

Resolving 'fixed'.

$ wine --version
wine-1.7.11-206-g82b3813

Closing bugs fixed in 1.7.12.
Comment 8 Esme Povirk 2014-03-13 17:25:18 UTC
Anastasius, what leads you to believe the gdiplus.dll shipped with Visio 2003 is different from the standard one in some significant way? I tried using the native dll installed by winetricks (deleting the ones in the office directory), and it seemed to work fine.

So it seems to me that unless you have good evidence that Visio needs private features that we shouldn't duplicate in Wine, there should be a bug filed for any problems with builtin gdiplus.
