Description Dan Ar Ber 2011-04-03 08:21:04 UTC
After installing CivCity Rome 1.1 (French version) on a recent version of Wine (1.3.14, but also on 1.3.15 and 1.2.2), using winetricks corefonts to solve the missing text in menus, it is impossible to play to that game.

Some details are missing (text and graphics AFAIK, see attached screenshot).

It looks like those display problems correspond to the following error messages:

fixme:d3d:debug_d3dformat Unrecognized 909201952 (as fourcc:  R16) WINED3DFORMAT!
fixme:d3d:getFormatDescEntry Can't find format unrecognized(909201952) in the format lookup table
fixme:d3d:debug_d3dformat Unrecognized 909200449 (as fourcc: AL16) WINED3DFORMAT!
fixme:d3d:getFormatDescEntry Can't find format unrecognized(909200449) in the format lookup table

I tried that game on two different computers, one with an NVIDIA 8600GT and the other one with an Intel integrated card (X4500HD). The very same problem occurs on both.

which nvidia drivers? Got a windows screenshot, too?
Comment 3 Dan Ar Ber 2011-04-03 13:22:13 UTC
I do not have a windows machine, so no way to get a windows snapshot. Googling providing me that image:
http://img.gamespot.com/gamespot/images/2006/208/reviews/932339_20060728_screen010.jpg

You can see that the status bar and the menu are missing.

The nvidia driver version is 260.19.33.

Bit of a long shot; do you have a texture quality option somewhere?
Comment 5 Dan Ar Ber 2011-04-04 10:15:04 UTC
Using the poorer texture quality does not solve the problem.

Can't confirm. Tested and works under:
 * 1.3.15, 1.3.24, 1.3.25
 * CivCity version v1.0, then patched to v1.1
 * Fullscreen and windowed mode
 * Debian Squeeze 32bit
 * nVidia GT240 v275.09.07

For bug 27810 i attached a screen shot http://bugs2.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=35750

Suggestion: Retest with Wine 1.3.25 and (!) updated Nvidia drivers. Drivers can fool quite a lot!

You can wait till Wine 1.3.26 is released, because a patch will be included which affects CivCity Rome.

This is your friendly reminder that there has been no bug activity for 2 years. Is this still an issue in current (1.7.6 or newer) wine? If so, please attach the terminal output in 1.7.6 (see http://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ#get_log).
Comment 9 Dan Ar Ber 2013-11-17 07:48:43 UTC
Thanks for the reminder.

Tested the same software on the same hardware with Wine 1.5.27 (which ships with Mageia 3).

The game works fine on both computers, as long as winetricks corefont is applied to see the text in the menus.

Thank you all for the great work on wine. My kids are quite happy to b able to play with Civ City Rome now.

Closing the bug as resolved since I was the one who opened it more than two years ago :)

Closing bugs fixed in 1.7.7.
