Wine ships 16x16, 32x32 and 48x48 versions of its icon. These should be installed in some place where panels, pagers, window managers can find them (packager's duty?).

However, at the moment two common sizes are missing: 24x24 and some larger version like 64x64, 128x128 or 256x256.

In GNOME3's window chooser, 64x64 icons are shown. Currently, wine only shows a smaller icon here, which looks kind of out of place (see attached screenshot). Note that GNOME does not ship 64x64 artwork itself but scales the bigger 256x256 version down to 64x64 in this place.

This has not been updated for over 900 days.

Is this still an issue in 1.6-rc2 or higher or is this abandoned ?

This is still an issue with all wine versions up to and including 1.6-rc3.

How do I check this?

This is your friendly reminder that there has been no bug activity for over a year. Is this still an issue in current (1.7.51 or newer) wine?

Yes, the issue still exists. Because there haven't been any fixes to dlls/user32/resources/oic_winlogo.ico since 2010.

Look in git :)

What's the deal with the new icon that looks like 4 white rhombuses on a red background?

I don't particularly mind it, but it replaced the icon of whatever app is actually running. That means, Excel or foobar2000 both will have the same icon, instead of their real icons.
