Screenshot showing drawing errors

While running Big Kahuna Reef (http://downloads.popcap.com/www/popcap_downloads/BigKahunaReefSetup.exe) the screen does not redraw properly leaving a "corrupt screen". The screen does redraw between levels and the game is playable.

Console shows

fixme:d3d:IWineD3DDeviceImpl_CreateSwapChain The app requests more than one back buffer, this can't be supported properly. Please configure the application to use double buffering(=1 back buffer) if possible

and the app shows that it is requesting two buffers, and this can not be changed.

I imagine this will affect other apps requesting more than one buffer but I could not find a bug open to this specific problem.

Can this be fixed?
Comment 1 Jeff Zaroyko 2008-12-19 18:51:54 UTC
It's better to summarise the bug by a description of the problem rather than a fixme that may or may not be related.
Comment 2 Ken Sharp 2009-05-14 08:31:38 UTC
That is the problem, affects more than one app, changing title to reflect problem.
Comment 3 James McKenzie 2009-05-24 22:19:07 UTC
Confirmed that dOOm also creates this bug at start and game play is affected (frame rate drops) whenever 'text' is displayed on the screen. FPS rate returns to normal when the 'text' is removed from the screen.

Patches were proposed on 5/26, 5/27 and 5/28. They do not completely fix the problem but they are good start.
Comment 7 James McKenzie 2009-06-23 20:59:56 UTC
More patches were posted yesterday, June 22nd, but are not ready for incorporation into Wine git.
Comment 8 Xavier Vachon 2010-09-20 19:50:33 UTC
Still an issue in current git 1.3.3

Present since at least 2007 and still present in 1.1.13. Four years is a little long to still have a fixme like this floating around.

No, this is a relatively new problem. And it is being worked on (at least the last time I checked.)
Comment 11 Xavier Vachon 2011-05-15 16:36:02 UTC
Still an issue in git (1.3.20)

I am having the same problem in wine 1.5.4
Comment 15 Ken Sharp 2014-01-13 01:38:55 UTC
Big Kahuna Reef no longer suffers any issuesin wine-1.7.10-191-g8953c74. I cannot test any of the other affected apps so could someone else please try?
Comment 16 John Winterton 2014-01-13 08:38:13 UTC
Problem appears to have been fixed in SimCity 4 Deluxe. Slight problem remains in some areas of defintion, but that's another story.
Comment 17 Ken Sharp 2014-01-22 16:39:06 UTC
Marking fixed then. Thanks.
Comment 18 Alexandre Julliard 2014-02-07 13:06:04 UTC
Closing bugs fixed in 1.7.12.
