Description Cassie Moondust 2008-08-03 08:55:39 UTC
The installer shows only a white window, with the buttons "Agree" or "Disagree". After that a second window pops up, completely blank and without buttons. Pressing ESC on the keyboard quits the installer.

The registration and the game is free to use and play.
Comment 1 Lei Zhang 2008-08-04 00:38:58 UTC
Is this the program?

Comment 2 Juho Nurminen 2008-08-04 09:24:33 UTC
The installer works perfectly if you have Internet Explorer 6 installed.
Comment 3 Austin English 2008-08-04 10:08:05 UTC
Does winetricks fakeie6 solve the problem as well?
Comment 4 Vijay Kamuju 2008-08-11 18:37:44 UTC
I confirn this bug
If installing IE6 solves the issue, you should try overriding with windows native dlls. That helps us identifying which dll is the culprit
Comment 5 Vijay Kamuju 2008-08-12 14:14:33 UTC
I think its due to wine unable to load NGMDll.dll
Comment 6 Lilou 2008-08-15 06:30:55 UTC
How to install Combat Arms :

1) install internet explorer 6 : http://www.tatanka.com.br/ies4linux
2) install Combat Arms in c:\Nexon\Combat Arms (default) :
export WINEPREFIX="/home/xxxxxxxxx/.ies4linux/ie6"
wine CombatArmsSetup.exe

installer work, but it is not the case of Combat arms ...

WINEDEBUG+=+relay,+seh,+tid wine ~/.ies4linux/ie6/drive_c/Nexon/Combat\ Arms/Engine.exe --> string "Themida Professional" (used by "Hackshield pro" ?) appears in logs.

see :
"At least [Themida] 1.9.3.0 or better 1.9.5.0+ is needed to exclude the protector as immediate cause for game/app crashes in wine."
"Ask the developers of this malware to use at least Themida 1.9.5+ when
bundling. Earlier ones won't get fixed."

That makes this bug invalid.
Comment 8 Dmitry Timoshkov 2008-08-15 06:38:11 UTC
Feel free to reopen if the problem persists without ies4linux.
Comment 9 Austin English 2008-08-15 12:41:17 UTC
The bug is about the installer not working, not the program. Installing ies4linux 'fixes' the bug. This is still a wine bug...
Comment 10 Vijay Kamuju 2008-08-15 13:43:50 UTC
If you want to continue, complete installation of IE is not required.
Just copy mshtml.dll (msls31.dll is required), shdocvw.dll and shlwapi.dll (some IConnectpoint function needs to be implemented) from your windows installation.
If you still have issues you might also need urlmon.dll
Add overrides to native, builtin for all the files, mentioned using winecfg.

Installation will start, I could not continue as I dont have enough space.

One more thing is that, I cant see any text in the EULA, and other screens.
I tried overriding riched32.dll, no help
Comment 11 Vijay Kamuju 2008-08-18 10:26:00 UTC
It does not use themida's hackshield but ahnsoft's HackShield Pro
Comment 12 Ryan Matthew 2008-11-11 22:27:56 UTC
Any new info on this? I installed IE 6 and can get to the point in the installer where it should start copying the files, but it does not copy them.

Please note that I can't see any text and have to press Enter to get through a couple blank screens.

I have installed ies4linux and I still get the bug.
Comment 15 Dmitry Timoshkov 2009-02-17 21:57:45 UTC
ies4linux is not supported through Wine bugzilla, 'rm -rf ~/.wine' and
try again with wine-1.1.15.

you must have ie6 installed with ies4linux, then

export WINEPREFIX="/home/yourusername/.ies4linux/ie6"
wine CombatArmsSetup.exe
Comment 17 Austin English 2009-09-03 12:19:04 UTC
Is this still an issue in current (1.1.29 or newer) wine?
Comment 18 Artem S. Tashkinov 2009-12-22 06:33:24 UTC
The installer does not work with the current wine 1.1.35 thusly confirming the bug.

confirming. 'winetricks ie6' works around it.
Still present with current version,

Comment 22 Dan Kegel 2010-04-07 17:19:49 UTC
The NGMDll.dll problem might happen if you run without ie6 installed.
Don't forget to kill the installer in that case before installing ie6,
I think it hangs around and interferes.
Comment 23 Dan Kegel 2010-08-01 10:53:29 UTC
Still present in wine-1.3.0.
Comment 24 runescapefrompw 2010-10-20 17:46:09 UTC
I don't know if anyone is active on this anymore but, I have downloaded the full patch manually because the downloader wouldn't work
with pando media booster (the error was pando media booster could not start).
so after i downloaded it, i ran the download through wine 1.3.5. It succesfully
installed correctly, so i then clicked start game. Now with this game when you
click start it brings up a browser (im using chrome) and the browser loads the
home page and there is a GAME START. So i click game start and then the page
will load, and it will ask me to download the Automatic downloader that wouldnt
work. I imagine this isn't a wine error, but i was hoping for suggestions.

EDIT: i managed to start the game manually from the file but after the game
loads and it says version checking then a dialog pops up which is correct. so i
click game start in the bottom right hand corner of the dialog. and the box
will dissapear and nothing happens. i have d3xd9 and gecko i've tried in every
version of windows aswell.

Hello,

still present, adjusting download link.

From a quick glance it seems the embedded mshtml browser control provides a smaller bounding rectangle than the app/UI layout expects (css).
Hence some UI controls are wrapped and become non-visible (buttons).

$ du -sh CombatArmsSetupV37.exe
913M	CombatArmsSetupV37.exe

$ sha1sum CombatArmsSetupV37.exe
ca351c5fab0ed5be4393ab2f8c0fc5dc934560a1 CombatArmsSetupV37.exe

$ wine --version
wine-1.5.3-101-g9c19ba6

Comment 27 Anastasius Focht 2013-12-13 15:28:53 UTC
Hello folks,

this is fixed now. The EULA and all UI elements are fully visible in embedded browser control window.
Unfortunately the buttons don't respond the events (click does nothing).
This is a different mshtml/shdocvw insufficiency.

All NEXON game installers that make use of the embedded IE browser control (DHTML) are affected.

'winetricks -q ie7' kind of works around - if you remove all native overrides except 'mshtml' and 'shdocvw' after applying the recipe.

Resolving 'fixed'.
