UOAssist crashes when starting the program up and it goes through the normal startup sequence of looking for updates and attempting to display a http "news" page in a frame prior to launching the application.

Do you need to have Ultima online for this to work?

You don't need Ultima Online to get to, and observe, the stage where the crash is occurring.  To install UOAssist, you will be prompted to specify a directory where the UO files are located.  If you create two random files called UOPatch.exe and client.exe this will be sufficient.  It'll then open a window and attempt to load the URL at which point it'll crash.

To test functionality beyond this point of crashing, you will however need UO installed.  The UO installer is actually available on EA's FTP servers:

WINE crash log.

UOAssist would freeze.  I'm assuming because the updater, UpdateAce, would fail.  So I guess this is really more of a log of an UpdateAce crash, UOAssist itself did not fail.  Note also that Gecko wouldn't download the information page.

Doesn't crash here, but I don't have the client to test with (I used the fake files method described in comment 2).

Still present in 1.2-rc6 (git) with:

Problem seems to be in IE related components. "winetricks ie7" fixes the problem.

Is this still an issue in wine 1.5.2?

This is second request for update in a row.

This bug has not been updated for three years. Is this still an issue i current
(1.5.28) or newer wine ? You may also close this as abandoned if you feel that
that this is issue is no longer relevant to you.

Currently the application hangs instead of crashing.

Actually this is fixed, I can see the crash in wine 1.2.3. The application hangs but comes back after 1 minute (waiting some sort of timeout?).
